[align=center]中华五十六个民族图徽[56P][/align]世界民族之林有一个璀璨的明珠，那就是中华民族。中华民族----中国各民族的总称。分布在亚洲的东部和中部。
经过民族识别，现今的中华民族共包括：汉族、蒙古族、回族、藏族、维吾尔族、苗族、彝族、壮族、布依族、朝鲜族、 满族、侗族、瑶族、白族、土家族、哈尼族、哈萨克族、傣族、黎族、傈僳族、佤族、畲族、高山族、拉祜族、水族、东乡族、纳西族、景颇族、柯尔克孜族、土族、达斡尔族、仫佬族、羌族、布朗族、撒拉族、毛南族、仡佬族、锡伯族、阿昌族、普米族、塔吉克族、怒族、乌孜别克族、俄罗斯族、鄂温克族、德昂族、保安族、裕固族、京族、塔塔尔族、独龙族、鄂伦春族、赫哲族、门巴族、珞巴族、基诺族共56个民族。
此外，尚有少量未经识别的人口。据1990年第四次全国人口普查统计，中国大陆30个省、自治区、直辖市共有 1133682501 人。其中汉族占91.96%，少数民族占8.04%。在漫长的历史发展中，各民族逐渐形成了以汉族为主体的大杂居、小聚居的局面。“中华”，原意与中国相通，又与华夏相系。《唐律疏议》云：“中华者，中国也。亲被王教，自属中国，衣冠威仪，习俗孝悌，居身礼义，故谓之中华。”中国近代著名学者章炳麟认为：“中国云者，以中外别地域之远近也；中华云者，以华夷别文化之高下也”（《章太炎文录初编·别录卷一·中华民国解》）。这里强调中华一词乃区别文化高下之族的含义。“中华”在历史上曾专指汉族，这是由于中华与华夏一词有关。华夏文化发达，遂以中华自称。
