Battle are a UK indie rock band. They came to some prominence with a sound consisting largely of post-punk, spatious guitar hooks and dance-orientated beats, and have been compared to The Cure, and New Order/Joy Division. Later recordings have grown increasingly organic and atmospheric and reveal a kinship with The Smiths, Remain in Light era Talking Heads and Arcade Fire. The name Battle can be seen as an incitement for the individual to fight for their passions. Many of Bavanandan's lyrics revolve around this central theme.
Having finely honed their craft since they burst onto the scene in 2005 with the phenomenal 'Demons' and developed their reputation further with the Transgressive 'Back To Earth' mini-album, Battle have spent their time quietly cultivating her sound. The band are now set to reap the rewards of their patience as the release of their full-length debut 'Break The Banks'.
Produced by Geoff Knowler and mixed by Adrian Hall (The Young Knives), 'Break The Banks' collates Battle's cult classic debut 'Demons' with the recent singles 'The Longest Time' and 'Paper Street' also part of an accomplished ten-track debut. Aside from the singles, 'Break The Banks' also highlights the fan favourite 'Sit With Me', the emotional melodicism of 'Negotiation' and the sublime mini-epic 'North Sea'.
